Visits in Quito and surroundings

Historic Center

It is the must-visit if you're in the city. According to UNESCO, Quito has the largest historic center (320 hectares), best preserved and least altered in Latin America. The old Quito has an outstanding architecture with magnificent churches and monasteries, narrow streets and squares of colonial style. Some of its churches and convents are: Quito Cathedral, Church of La Compañía, Church and convent of San Francisco, Church and convent of Santo Domingo, Church and convent of La Merced.

Banco Central Museum

This museum has an important collection of pre-Columbian objects, including ceramics and objects of gold, from cultures established at different times on the Ecuadorian territory. In the upper floors you can find also paintings and sculptures from different colony epochs and the Republican period.

The Equatorial Line

20km to the North of the city lays the Equatorial monument. The Citadel has a large monument erected on the site where the Geodesic mission known as La Condamine established the crossing of the Equatorial line. Their mission was to check the shape of the Earth by measuring an arc of one degree of a global meridian, and therefore verify the idea of Isaac Newton that the planet is compressed at the poles. The visit takes about two hours.

There are many one day visits that you can do outside of Quito. For more information about other museums, visitor sites close to Quito and activities, please contact us.
