SunWind Travel is an enterprise created in 1999 by three members of an Ecuadorian-Swiss family: Rodrigo Jácome-Speck, Santiago Jácome-Speck and Rodrigo’s son, Daniel Jácome-Rosenfeld. With the enthusiasm that characterizes our family, one at a time, Juan Manuel, Anita, Marcelo, and Lourdes joined in this activity and now form part of SWT in Quito, Galapagos, Miami and Geneva. In 1957 our father Luis Jácome went to the Galapagos Islands and began the adventure, although in a totally different field, he started a cattle ranch with the feral cattle that was abundant on Isabela Island. This adventure ended with the creation of the Galapagos National Park in 1959, but ever since and thanks to the wonderful stories that our dad used to tell us by the fireside, a part of us and our dreams stayed on the islands forever.

Since we were born, we grew up on different Haciendas on the Andes and our life was always surrounded by nature, beautiful landscapes where we could roam at our own free will. Years later some of these places were turned into Wildlife Reserves or National Parks, like the Ilinizas, Cotacachi-Cayapas and Llanganates.

All this, next to the adventurous spirit we inherited from our dad, motivated in us the hunger to explore, see new different exiting places and discover some of the wonders, some still hidden, that our rich country has to offer.

In 1983, Rodrigo decided to leave the mainland and went to live in the Galapagos, in Santa Cruz Island, where he still remains, in Puerto Ayora, where in 1986 he got his Naturalist III Guide license. Some years later his son Daniel followed his steps and got his license in 1994. (see Our Guides)

The joint experience we have acquired along our exiting lives, our knowledge of our beautiful country, Ecuador, our adventurous spirit and the wish to share our experiences with others, together with fulfilling our dream to put together a travel business, gave birth to SunWind Travel.

OUR NAME

Our company's name: SUN, represents our heritage, our culture, and comes from the cult that our ancestors rendered the SUN which they considered as the giver of life and fountain of all energy. The symbol is a gold figure from 1000 years ago, belonging to the culture TUNCAHUAN, which makes reference to this cult in the middle of the world and is part of their Cosmo vision. WIND, represents the traveler that arrives in company of its spirit; in old times the navigating travelers were called:  "brought by the wind".

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU

Our main interest for your coming to Ecuador is so you will get to know what we have and our people, so you can spread the word around about our great cultural and natural wealth. We want more people to become aware of the need to take care of our planet, because we don't have another to replace it. Your role is important in our mission because we depend on your conscience and participation. It is not in our interest to make money at the expense of our fantastic country, we want it to grow, develop, learn, so that all can live in a better world.

YOUR SAFETY

Your safety is our main concern, so we have taken all the necessary precautions so you can feel secure in our hands. We are aware of the reality of our country and are fully conscientious of its inconveniences. For that, we know where and how to move around, and we know where we are not supposed to go. We know our people, their language, their customs, their idiosyncrasy and we know how to move around any situation in our own environment. You will be at all times with one of our tour leaders who will be in charge of all details and your safety as well. Our tour leaders are people very well trained and capable of taking decisions in cases of emergency or any need, keeping their cool and sense of humor at all times. The tour boats we work in the Galapagos Islands with, fulfill or surpass international security standards and we have selected those keeping in mind a strict quality control. The same goes with any other means of transportation we use and also other services as hotels, sports and adventure activities, food ,etc. Our guides are perfectly well trained and the equipment we use in each adventure is of optimal quality and permanently monitored to renovate constantly, assuring you the highest safety and quality standards. For emergency medical cases we have selected the best available facilities and doctors throughout the country.

COMFORT

Lodging can go from a five star hotel in the city to a camp high up in the mountains, through an eco-lodge in the jungle, a sailboat in the Galapagos or an old hacienda in the Andes. In any case we have selected the very best, taking in account the ambiance and to maintain a harmony with the visiting site. We have selected three categories of the best hotels. In the Galapagos you will be also in the most comfortable boats. In the Amazon jungle you will be lodged in very rustic but clean and beautiful and very comfortable jungle lodges, with hot water and all the necessary facilities for your utmost comfort. In certain trips we contemplate camping, our tents are spacious and of the best quality and if the climate gets challenging we have even dining tents. We also have bathroom tents with all the facilities. Our team of guides and helpers will take from your hands all the hard work and details so you can concentrate only in what you came here to do, contemplate, take pictures or whatever. They are well trained to perform with our strict rules of hygiene, comfort and safety, apart from taking care of the surrounding environment of each camping site. We will inform you beforehand of all details concerning lodging depending on the trips that you choose.

FOODSTUFF

In all our trips, you will enjoy the most delicious cuisine, be it in a cozy restaurant in one of the main cities or on one of our vessels in the Galapagos, where you will delight in a varied selection of national and international dishes. In our camping sites or at riverside on a rafting trip our chefs will surprise you with the most exquisite food. Our cooks are pros and ostensibly enjoy their trade even in the most godforsaken places. They are also conscious of your safety and maintain the highest quality and hygiene. Even the water used to prepare your meals is strictly purified and can be used at large.

OUR GUIDES

We have the best team of guides, with several years of experience on each field, with a vast knowledge of the area of their expertise, of the customs of the people and their history with a clear notion of safety and service and are ready and willing to share their knowledge, adventures, stories and their experiences with the travelers in their charge. They will be aware of your needs at every moment, will teach you and help you get the most from each experience. For each trip to the Galapagos Islands we place our own guides and crew to guarantee the best quality in service.

PREPARING THE TRIP

We have tried to provide the most complete and clear information about each of our trips, lodging possibilities and all the details concerning our packages and itineraries. If more information is needed do not hesitate and get in touch with us and we will be happy to help you out. Once you decide for one of our tours, we will provide you with a brochure containing packing lists for the site you'll visit, detailed information about the place of visit, lodging, itineraries, health information and other details. It is of the utmost importance to let us know about any health problem of each passenger before departure; for this we will send you a medical form to be filled by each passenger with their personal data, medical data, health state, medicine requirements or treatment and any other information that can be useful to us so we can take care of your well being and safety. If in the group there is someone with any kind of incapacity, we could modify the trip with enough time to avoid misfortunes and accomplish a maximum enjoyment of your experience in Ecuador. Upon arrival you will be met by one of our tour leaders, who will be with you throughout the trip.
